Membership at Lifetrack church

MEMBERSHIP AT LIFETRACK

Church membership is important for the health not only of the body of believers but also the individual believer.  The bible refers to the church as “members of a body”, each member with its own purpose and role through which the believer and the body of believers glorify God. (1 Corinthians 12:12-31)

  • As a member of the body of Christ you are counted on to love God and love one another; to be responsive and obedient to the teaching of God’s word; to regularly attend worship; to learn and teach; to grow in understanding, faith and love; to give as the Lord enables you and to receive when you are in need; to serve and be served; to encourage and be encouraged as the Holy Spirit gifts you and as servants leading to life in Christ.

WHAT MEMBERSHIP IS NOT

  • Membership doesn’t save anyone. Salvation is a free gift from God to those who respond in faith by trusting in Jesus Christ.
  • You do not have to be a member in order to worship regularly, take communion, lead or participate in LifeGroups, participate in LifeTeams, attend events, or invest yourself in any other number of opportunities for spiritual growth at LifeTrack.
  • We do not delineate between non-members and members when providing pastoral support and care. Membership doesn’t indicate a person has greater spiritual value to us.  The purpose of local church membership is for discipleship, community, connecting and accountability.

WHY BECOME A MEMBER?

  • The ability to contribute to Kingdom work through specific servant-leadership roles that require membership because they are given oversight and shepherding responsibilities such as Elders, Deacons, and specific Ministry LifeTeam leaders (ie. Financial Stewardship).
  • The opportunity to be heard by communicating your care and concern for LifeTrack church and its ministries directly to the lead pastor or someone in leadership.
  • Access to call upon the Pastor, Elders and the church if you’re facing a crisis, including but not limited to health, finances, work or family. (1 Corinthians 12:26)

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

  • Joining LifeTrack should not precede a decision made to repent, believe in, and follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  To be a member of the body of Christ you must be a believer in Christ. Church membership could actually be detrimental if it gives a false sense of spiritual security and undermines the need for a personal relationship with God that can only be found in Jesus Christ.
  • Baptism is commanded by Jesus for all who choose to become His disciple (Matthew 28:19). We believe baptism is the outward sign of an inner change of heart that occurs when someone is regenerated by the Holy Spirit to repent and trust in Jesus. Baptism is the step of obedience where a believer identifies with Jesus’ death and resurrection (Romans 6:4). We practice baptism by fully immersing in water a person who is able to express his/her faith in Christ (“believer’s baptism”). We don’t believe the act of baptism is required for salvation, but merely signals the saving work of Christ that has already taken place. You do not need to be re-baptized to join LifeTrack Church.
  • Commit to support the mission and work God has given us at LifeTrack Church
    • Evangelize the lost, Praise the King, Increase understanding and Care for those in need
    • Grow as part of an Increase Understanding class and/or LifeGroups
    • Serve as a contributing member to a LifeTeam Ministry
    • Grow and serve as a regular attendee at Sunday worship services.

WHAT ARE THE VISION, MISSION AND VALUES OF LIFETRACK?

  • LifeTrack is called by God and led by the Holy Spirit to be a light in our communities that leads to life in Christ.
    • In the Great Commandment (Mat. 22:37-39) God calls us to love Him and love our neighbors.
    • In the Great Commission (Mat. 28:18-20) the Holy Spirit leads us to make disciples.
  • LifeTrack is on mission when we are a light in our communities leading people to a life in Christ by being EPIC.
    • Evangelize the lost (Share the gospel and invite people to respond to Christ through faith)
    • Praise the King (Acknowledge and exalt God’s sovereignty, goodness, and majesty.)
    • Increase Understanding (Grow in your knowledge, faith and love for God and His Word)
    • Care for those in need (See and meet others needs, glorifying God and pointing to Jesus)

CORE BELIEFS OF LIFETRACK CHURCH

  •  God - There is one true God. The Creator and Sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1 and 26-27 3:22, Psalm 90:2, Matthew 28:19, John 14:26, I Peter 1:2, 2 Corinthians 13:14)
  • Jesus Christ - The second person of the Trinity, Jesus is fully God and fully man, existing for all eternity and having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a life without sin, was crucified on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven where He now reigns as our High Priest and Mediator. (Matthew 1:22-23, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:1-5, 8:58, 10:30-38, 12:45, 14:10-30, 17:5,24, Hebrews 1:3, 4:14-15, 7:3, I Corinthians 15:3-4, Romans 1:3-4)
  • The Holy Spirit - The third person of the Trinity who glorifies Jesus Christ and convicts men of sin, indwells, guides, instructs, comforts and empowers the believer for godly living and service. We further believe that all Christians have been promised the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Although we cannot dictate the Holy Spirit as to when and where He acts, the promise of His presence may be claimed at the point of conversion (Acts 2:38). The Holy Spirit then gives gifts of ministry to each one for the good of the body (I Corinthians 12:4-7). We do not believe that sign gifts exist to prove someone is saved nor should they be practiced to draw attention to the individual.
  • The Scriptures -Both Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of mankind, and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Timothy 1:13, Psalm 12:6, 119:105 and 160, Proverbs 30:5.)
  • Baptism - Salvation is through the grace of Jesus only and paid for by His blood. (Ephesians 1:7) No amount of work on our part can earn it. (Ephesians 2:8,9) People are called to believe and accept Jesus as the only Savior for sin. (Acts 15:7) People are expected to confess belief in Christ. (Matthew 10:32) People confirm that decision in water baptism. (Acts 8:35-38) Jesus instructed His disciples to go and make disciples baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,  teaching them to obey everything that He commanded them. (Matthew 28:19-20) Baptism was practiced in the Church from its beginning. (Acts 2:38-41)
  • Stewardship -Biblical stewardship is the responsible care for and giving back to God the gifts that He has given us including our money, abilities and time. God is the giver of all good and perfect gifts and therefore the owner of all things before and after they have been given to us. He promises to reward with His blessings those who faithfully give back to Him. His blessings are given in accordance with man’s faithfulness and generosity. (James 1:17, Luke 6:38, Romans 12:8,  2 Corinthians 9:7, Malachi 3:8-10)
